Wall systems can be freestanding, hanging, modular, adjustable, or fixed, just to name a few options available. There are corner units, floating shelves, hanging shelves, track systems and fully adjustable wall units. The most flexible system is a track system. You can adjust the height of the shelves to accommodate several different sized items. This type of shelving gives you the freedom to frequently change your displays without too much fuss. You can tailor this style of shelving to fit your specific needs.
The corner shelf can also be a great place for a small television. You don`t want to put a lot of weight on them, but a depending how it was mounted to the wall, some can handle up to 50 pounds. Screwing them directly onto the studs can dramatically increase the amount of weight they can bear. So be sure to follow all the manufacturers recommendations and limitations to avoid a disastrous situation.
The older corner type shelves used to have a decorative wood or metal bracket that would be visible. Although it was easily seen, it was made to blend into the decor of the room. With the modern corner shelves, they can be hung with out any of the brackets being seen. You can still get a large number with decorative wall brackets, but a floating type design has become so much more popular.
